On-Demand Home Services and How to Stay Ahead

You may have been hearing the term ‘on-demand home services’ more and more lately.

So, what is it?

To put it simply, it’s a lot like everything else consumers are using now; Immediate, user-friendly, online services to meet their lifestyles. There are instant service apps for everything! Groceries, dog-walking, dry cleaning, ride sharing, etc.

Now we can fully add home services to that list. Not only in apps, but in the regular searches we do on our mobile devices.

Millennials make up almost 50% of on-demand service users. You may be thinking you don’t need to worry about this because your key audience in the home services industry is 50+! While it may be true that older demographics are still driving the market in the home services industry, eventually you will want to attract and retain those millennials as well as they are going to creep into that market share in the next 10 or less years.

So, as the Google and Amazon mindset is only continuing to show up in all demographics it’s important to shift your mindset in the same way. With Local Services by Google, Amazon Home Services and the merge between HomeAdvisor and Angie’s List, your potential and current customers are utilizing these seamless platforms and are also depending heavily on reviews and a QUICK turnaround when they do inquire.

What are the next steps?

Put a stronger focus on your reviews. Request reviews regularly to your audience, post and share those who are reviewing, and make it easy for customers to review you. Be sure to respond to as many reviews as possible. Good or bad.

Be sure if you are doing paid search (which you absolutely should be in this industry) you also add Local Services by Google if it is available in your industry and location. This is going to stand out above all other searches. It does cost more per thousand, but the leads pay off according to industry users.

Be sure you rank with HomeAdvisor and keep an eye on Amazon’s Home Services listings. Right now, Omaha is not a city available for professionals to list their services but I’m confident it will be added sooner than you think!
